being poor = making do with what you have.

rinse off those (only a little moldy) strawberries and add to blender.
price = free: Liz gave them to me. hand me down groceries!
hand squeeze a lemon into blender
price = free. more hand me down groceries!
add some ice that you made by freezing little amounts of water into a half dozens cups because you don’t own an ice cube tray.
price = free. city water tastes less bad when its ice i guess.

and now you have a blended bit of food that really just tastes like lemon juice. it’s not that bad though, and at least its healthy. ~~i’m itching to add my last can of strawberita to it.~~

the good news: my Michigan Test for Teacher Certification Basic Skills score was posted today. and i passed it all (: that is happy. I even got all ++++ (which is the highest scoring) in all areas, including math!

the semi-bad news: having passed the test now means that I have to go back to WMU and do some more paperwork and all to hopefully be able to register for my ed classes this fall.

the bad news: i’m still incredibly broke. and it’s making me cry every day. i should have my living situations all lined up, but now i’ve gotta pay for them ): i am cancelling my internet service for the summer to save the $40/month ):):

LIFE, yo. i babysat this morning. i did a 5k today with my girls on the run. (it was very nice) I honestly wanted to do some more running this afternoon but then i decided to take a shower so that i could get on with my day. which includes going to Biggby to redeem my free drink (:(: i’ve never gotten anything from Biggby besides regular coffee and chai because everything’s so expensive. so i’m def gonna get one of their frozen frappe drinks. yay. i’m giving myself tomorrow off. i could babysit, but i would like a day to relax. then i’ve got orientation at my new job at OCB on Thursday and hopefully i’ll start working soon after that. and then me and my dear and Zach are going to see Aziz Ansari on saturday!! so that’s my life right now.

And it’s not even over yet.

Orientation-type thing at the greenhouse this morning. Still don’t know if I’ll be hired (probably won’t accept the offer if I am.) It was a long drive out to the greenhouse but all the flowers and plants were absolutely beautiful. Even if I don’t work there, it was a lovely little experience to walk through all the employee-only parts of the greenhouse, which holds at least 3x as much beautiful plants as the retail area does.

I took my dear friend Christian to the airport; she is leaving for Norway until August. Her goodbyes with her boyfriend made me cry a little. She is much braver than I am. It was nice to see her off. Plus she bought me a thank-you-for-driving-me-present that I’m very excited about (:
Sidebar: there is a kitty across the lawn at my apartment right now. Do want. Little black cat with white paws.
Then I had Girls on the Run. Which was fun like always, even though my face gets so ridiculously red from running. Today our workout involved us 3 coaches being “it” and tagging all the girls. So I did a LOT of running. But I’ll be doing even more next Tues, when we run the practice 5k around the neighborhood.
Two especially lovely things from GOTR today.
1) We have at least 3 times per practice when we group up to process the character developing activities that we do. The head coaches ask the questions and the girls answer. And sometimes I feel like sharing my thoughts with the girls, because they might be helpful. But I haven’t at all. And that’s okay! Because today I really realized that just like in school, you learn best when you are working through the problems yourselves, better than when someone just tells you the answer. So that’s just a simple thought, but important to keep in mind when you’re instructing kids.
2) Each practice we give out 2 “Energy Awards” to girls who stood out that day as respectful, hard working, helpful, etc. And sometimes the coaches pick a girl to give the Award to another girl. And today, the coaches asked Caroline to do this. And Caroline gave me an Energy Award and said it was because I’m always helpful and nice and agreeable. It was soooo sweet. We really have a lovely group of girls. And days like this make me really ponder if I should be going into elementary ed instead of high school…
Another sidebar: If I ever have kids, I’ve always loved the names Jane and Caroline. A little because of Pride and Prejudice and a little because I’ve been lucky enough to only have met girls with these names who are, for the most part, agreeable.
So that was my day. I’m very excited for my interviews tomorrow, I hope all goes well.
Now I’m off to party hard.

i’ve been sending out dozens and dozens of resumes and emails over the past week and it’s been agonizing because no one has called/emailed me back! i was just about to give in and start applying for waitressing positions..

and then i just got 2 calls back in the last hour! what is up with that.

the first is for a FULL TIME position at a greenhouse (: i have an interview tomorrow at 2:00. i’m so excited because this is one of the jobs that i really wanted.

the second is to be a server at Old Country Buffet. which is close to where i live and it’s full time. the interview for OCB is on Friday at 12:30..so hopefully i get the greenhouse job tomorrow and can say no to OCB, but if I don’t get the greenhouse job, then i’m glad that i have another job lined up!!

Okay, just sent out emails with my resume and all to apply for 3 more jobs. Veterinary...

They’re all full time. Yeah the drying cleaning one sounds lame, but it’s like 10 minutes from where I live and it’s full time and seems relatively easy. Either of the receptionist jobs would be lovely. Also still hoping that the greenhouse and/or Goodwill will email me back!
